Back to School Series- How to turn your books from drab to fab! **DIY**

Hey guys, so as this is my first post on my new blog I thought I would do a Back-to-school DIY!

Now, my school has a strict uniform policy, and the uniform is predominately black with splashes of sick-coloured green (I know… bleurgh!), and the only opportunity to express yourself and add a bit of quirky-ness to your day is through your school bag and stationary. So, today I will show you a fun, inexpensive and easy way to spruce up your workbooks, notepads, revision guides, texbooks, jotters, planners and dictionaries.

What you will need:
Any book needed for school work (I'm using an old Physics book that I didn't use!)
A roll of self-adhesive patterned paper (I picked this up from paperchase a few years ago, but I've seen many cheap and fun alternatives online)

                                                           Unicorns optional!

Scissors (remember to take extra care when using these!)

Pritt Stick (how cute is this pink one from WH Smiths?!)
And a few old magazines (I'm using my favourite- Company!)

Step 1) First lay the book out on which ever surface you are working on, (try and be a bit more sensible than me!) like this:
Step 2) Then unroll the paper, and spread it over the top of the book, make sure you have enough to cover it whilst still having extra at the top, bottom and sides!
Step 3) Then cut along where you want the paper! (tip: as mine was in a roll for so long it was quite difficult to work with as it kept bending, so I covered the edges with some heavy magazines and my laptop to flatten it out!) Then peel back the plastic...
Step 4) Stick the paper over the book and then flip it over!
Step 5) Then carefully fold the excess paper on the side across, and stick it onto the side of the book

Repeat this with the other side.
Step 6) Then with the scissors make a clean cut from the top of the paper to the spine of the book, directly above the centre. Repeat at the opposite end.
Step 7) Then fold the two segments at the top over and the two at the bottom, so all the sides are folded!
Step 8) By now, the entire book should be covered, and you could leave it at that if you wanted. However, I used cut-outs from my magazines to add what subject the book is for and added a picture of the lovely and talented Lianne La Havas as it is going to be used for my music lessons!
Tip: Be Creative! The magazine I was using was a bit short on "M"s, however they did have a segment on City Shorts, so I cut out my two favourite pairs of shorts and made them into a "M"!

That's it! It's really simple, affordable ad creates a one-of-a-kind piece of stationary to brighten up boring school days! It's always a great money-buster for a nice notebook- why spend a lot of money on a patterned notepad when you can buy a cheap one and decorate it like this!

I really hope you enjoyed this DIY, and would love it if you could like this post, or follow the blog! Also, tell me in the comments what you think of this, any requests for future posts and what your schoolbag essentials are!
